The Dangers of Improper Mulching

Improper mulching kills trees causing mice, insects, and fungus that can hide next to the trunk and feed on parts of the tree. It also prevents water from reaching a tree’s roots.  This type of mulching is referred to as a “mulch volcano”. Applying a 2- to 4-inch layer of organic mulch can mimic a more natural environment and improve plant health.
